## Description

The monument to the victims of communist deportations, popularly known as the "Train of Sorrow", stands in the square of the Chișinău railway station. It is a bronze sculpture by Iurie Platon, inaugurated on 23 August 2013. It honours the tens of thousands of Bessarabians deported between 1940 and 1953, many of whom were put on trains at this very station bound for Siberia and Kazakhstan. The monument stands in the open air by the station, a fitting short stop when you arrive or leave by train.
