Monasteries and churches · The Middle Nistru
Saharna Monastery stands on the right bank of the Dniester, about 110 km north of Chisinau, in a wooded ravine. The complex has a rock-cut part and the Holy Trinity church, built in 1776. It keeps the relics of Saint Macarius, and a rock nearby shows what legend says is the footprint of the Mother of God. The Saharna stream forms several waterfalls in the valley, and the area has Iron Age archaeological finds. Daily services begin at 5:45, the Liturgy is at 7:00, and evening service starts at 17:00. The drive from Chisinau takes roughly two hours.
A rough sketch. The distance is in a straight line, not by road.
