History · Orhei and the Răut Valley
The site holds traces of several civilizations: a Geto-Dacian fortress, a Golden Horde fort, a Moldavian fort and the remains of the medieval town of Orhei. The Orthodox cave monastery is still active, and the caves in the rock still serve as chapels; Old Church Slavonic inscriptions from the 1690s survive on the walls. The complex forms the core of Orhei National Park. Visitors can see the caves, walk along the Răut and take in the rocky landscape.
A rough sketch. The distance is in a straight line, not by road.
