Cathedral Park, also called the Cathedral Square, lies in central Chișinău and is one of the city's oldest public spaces. It was laid out in 1836 together with the Metropolitan Cathedral designed by architect Avraam Melnikov, and the nearby Triumphal Arch was added in 1840. The bell tower destroyed in 1962 was rebuilt in 1998. Today locals come to walk and rest, and the park hosts fairs and cultural events through the year. A monument to three martyrs was unveiled here in 2016.
