History · Chișinău and Surroundings
The Triumphal Arch, also called the Holy Gates, stands in the Great National Assembly Square in Chișinău. It was built in 1840–1841 to a design by the architect Luca Zaușkevici, to mark the Russian army's victory in the Russo-Turkish war of 1828–1829. It is 13 metres high with Corinthian capitals. The arch belongs to an ensemble with the Nativity Cathedral and the Government House and is a gathering place for the city's major events.
