The Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God in Căușeni is a monument built in the 17th and 18th centuries, founded by the Moldavian ruler Grigore Callimachi and Metropolitan Daniil of Prislava. It is a semi-buried church, unique in the East Carpathian area: Căușeni was under Ottoman rule, and the law did not let Christian churches rise above the roofs of mosques or exceed certain dimensions. The interior painting dates from 1763 and is the work of the painters Stanciul, Radu and Voicul. After almost eight years of restoration, begun in 2016, the church, part of the National Art Museum of Moldova, was announced to reopen to visitors by the end of 2024.
