Monasteries and churches · Chișinău and Surroundings
The Church of St. Pantelimon stands at the corner of 31 August 1989 and Vlaicu Pârcălab streets in Chișinău and reflects the city's Greek heritage. It was designed by Alexander Bernardazzi, chief architect of Chișinău from 1856 to 1878. The stone building is Byzantine in style and covered with iron sheets; an ironwork grille surrounds the sanctuary and a crypt with twenty burial places lies in the basement. In the Soviet period the church closed in 1947 and served as a film warehouse and then a wine tasting room. Religious services resumed in 1991.
