Curchi Monastery, dedicated to the Birth of the Mother of God, is in Curchi village, Orhei district. It was founded in 1773 by the brothers Iordache and Mihail Curchi, and the complex grew through the 18th and 19th centuries. The main church, built between 1866 and 1872, mixes Baroque with Classical elements; the Church of Saint Nicholas (built from 1808 to 1810) has a Neo-Byzantine spire. In Soviet times, after 1958, the churches served as storage and the site became a psychiatric hospital; reconstruction began in 2002. Today it has an active monastic life, a choir and regular services, and a dendrological park with rare trees is among its sights.
