Monasteries and churches · The Middle Nistru
Tipova Monastery is a rock-cut complex on the right bank of the Dniester, carved into a steep cliff about 100 m above the river and roughly 95 km from Chisinau, about an hour and a half by car. It holds three monastic complexes from different periods, from the 11th-12th to the 18th century, with the Holy Cross church, cells, terraces, balconies and galleries linked by stairs and passages. The site also served as a refuge from invasions. It was closed in 1949 and reopened in 1994, and is now a pilgrimage place. It is part of the Stephen the Great Route. The cascades of the Tipova river are nearby.
A rough sketch. The distance is in a straight line, not by road.
