History · Chișinău and Surroundings
The cornerstone of Chișinău is a block of stone marking the spring that gave the city its name. It stands at the foot of the hill topped by Măzărache Church, founded in 1752 by Vasile Măzărachi. The city's name is tied to a "chisla noua", believed to mean "new spring" in archaic Romanian. The monument can be seen freely from outside and combined with a visit to the church nearby.
