Mazarache Church
Monasteries and churches · Chișinău and Surroundings
The Măzărache Church in Chișinău was completed in 1752 with the backing of the merchant and official Vasile Măzărache, and is considered the oldest building in the city, a monument of architecture of national importance. It now belongs to the Old Rite Orthodox community and is one of the few churches in Chișinău that were not closed during the Soviet period. Inside are old icons, a simple wooden iconostasis and a concave ceiling typical of medieval Moldovan churches. A notice at the entrance asks for modest dress: no short skirts or transparent clothing for women, no shorts for men.
