Photo of Bread Museum

The Bread Museum in Văleni, Cahul district, is devoted to ritual bread, traditions and customs. The display has over 20 ceremonial loaves, 12 of them wedding breads such as the plocon, the bride's pupăză or the mother-in-law's pupăză, plus breads for Christmas, Easter and other feasts. Visitors are served cold lemon-balm and mint tea with bee honey, cozonac and pastries baked over an open fire. Workshops in baking and braiding loaves are offered, and short scenes of wedding customs are sometimes staged. The museum was founded by Vera Caminschi and sits in the courtyard of the La Gura Cuptorului guesthouse, where guests can stay overnight.
