The Costești–Stânca reservoir was formed by the dam on the Prut between Costești in Moldova and Stânca in Romania's Botoșani County; the dam controls floods and produces hydroelectric power. People in Moldova call the lake 'the North Sea'. Part of the lake and the Prut is a protected nature area of European interest, important for birds. A natural sandy beach with a gentle entry into the water has formed on the Romanian shore, with almost no facilities. The dam is also a border crossing.
A rough sketch. The distance is in a straight line, not by road.
